Classly

Timeframe: 2025 – 2026

Context: Classly started as the internal classroom for the Bracken community and grew into a standalone learning platform for anyone studying IT, from first-year students to working professionals.

Problem / Goal: Learners juggle roadmaps, timers, to-do lists and calendars across many separate tools. Classly puts the whole study routine in one place and makes progress visible.

My Contribution

  • Designed and built the platform end to end, from data model to UI
  • Roadmaps with per-step progress states and attached resources, plus a roadmap builder
  • Focus tools: Pomodoro timer, study sessions, tasks, goals and a calendar with Google Calendar sync
  • Streaks and a leaderboard to keep people coming back
  • Maven, an AI study assistant that turns plans into tasks
  • Duet sessions for studying together, plus messaging with peer-to-peer file transfer
  • Teams with shared leaderboards, Polar subscriptions, and team onboarding flows
  • Web push notifications and a service worker for an app-like experience
  • A security pass that enabled Row Level Security with owner-scoped policies on sensitive tables

Approach & Tech: Next.js with React and TypeScript, Prisma on PostgreSQL, NextAuth credentials auth, Supabase, the Google Calendar API, Polar for billing, Web Push, and GSAP / Framer Motion for motion.

Inside the app (demo data)

Focus timerThe timer you study with. On the right you can see who else is studying right now and where you stand this week.

Tasks and goalsTasks sit under goals, with due dates and priorities. The calendar on the side syncs with Google Calendar.

Roadmap libraryRoadmaps you can follow. Some are picked by us, the rest are made by the community.

A roadmap in progressEach step has its own resources. You mark it as started or done, and the progress bar moves with you.

Session historyEvery study session is saved, so you can see how much you studied today, this week or this month.

DuetStudy with a friend on one shared timer. Past duets are kept with the subject and how long it lasted.

MavenAsk Maven for a study plan and it can add the steps to your tasks for you.

NotebooksNotes grouped by notebook and subject, written in Markdown.

LeaderboardRanked by study time this week. You can switch between your team, friends and everyone.

CommunityA feed of what people studied, with reactions.

Team pageYour team in one place: members, total hours and current streaks.

ProfileYour stats, your streak and the roadmaps you are working through.

ChangelogWhat changed in each release, right inside the app.

SettingsPick a color theme and a background style.

Outcome / Impact: Classly is live at classly.pro as a single home for structured self-study.

What I Learned:

  • Database security has to be built in from the start: RLS policies belong in the first migration, not a later audit
  • Small rituals like streaks and study partners keep people coming back more than extra features do
